The Cal Neva is going green!!

Friday, April 30th, 2010

A downtown Reno’s casino icon, the Club Cal Neva, is GOING GREEN with the installation of over 20,000 state of the art LED lamps and lighting devices. Illumination using LED lighting significantly reduces overall energy usage. The outdoor signage at the Club Cal Neva includes more lights than any other downtown casino and will now use 80% less electricity. Each LED light outputs more light per watt of electricity than the incandescent lights that they replace. The current incandescent bulbs average a little more than 11 watts per bulb.  The new more efficient LED bulbs average less than 1 watt. The initial costs to replace the bulbs are more expensive but overtime will more than pay for themselves.  The energy efficient LED bulbs will last 2-3 times longer than their wasteful counter-parts.  The total energy savings is significant. The 20,000 bulbs were changed over a three week period with crews working on the signs daily.   “We’re also in the process of evaluating the lighting in our two parking garages” Club Cal Neva CEO Jeff Siri. “LED technology is a great opportunity for a casino to reduce its costs while doing its part to preserve the environment.”
